AHEM . . .
In response to the letter “My back yard’s fine”
(http://www.portlandphoenix.com/archive/features/01/05/04/LETTERS.html), the author
made several inaccurate observations which I feel obligated to correct:
1. Ocean View Park is not a new name. This has been the name associated with the
neighborhood since at least 1898 and appears on the deeds to all houses here.
2. The builder actually did choose to tear the original house down at 244 Veranda, but
was not allowed. Whether or not it becomes an ugly monstrosity remains to be seen.
3. The fact that residents will lose their ocean view is the least of our concerns. We
would prefer not to see other houses in our mostly single family neighborhood turned
into three-story condos with 70-foot-long garages.
4. Apparently it was assumed that we neighborhood nitwits would automatically vote for
the referendum. Not so.
5. Limiting construction of additional units in Portland is not what was said. The city
desperately needs new housing, but should this be at the expense of established family
neighborhoods? Perhaps this person would prefer to see all Portland homes converted into
multi-unit apartment buildings, ultimately forcing families to the suburbs and subsequent
school closings.
OUR BAD
Sherie Dyer, this is Dave from the Vampire Lezbos.
I think it’s consensus that you only talk about those things you know best . . . bad
pseudo-alternative rock and sloppy back-stage parties. The band breaking-up is news to me.
I’m on the west coast now negotiating a record deal of our new record with a large indie
(wouldn’t they be pissed!) as well as visiting and recruiting an ex-lezbo back into the
band — a band that is more alive now than in the last 10 years. For the benefit of your
readers, the last release from us was in ’96 on Dubious Honor records, preceded by the
’95 (not ’90) Bad Habits release of Roswell 1947. Face it, we did, you know nothing
of punk not to mention the ethos. Stop pretending. Next time you write an article on us,
or anyone else for that matter, please do a little research. Really that’s all it would
take to correct an article full of errors. It might get you a cheap date, but your miniscule
credibility only suffers more . . . Many thanks to those who voted for us. This dead band
is relocating back to Seattle but will tour through Portland in the near future shaking
our boney little asses off.
