YES, WE HAVE LESBIANS

I am writing to set the record “straight,” and to respond to Adrian Brune[‘s] comments suggesting that Ogunquit is not Gay and Lesbian friendly, that she spied no more than eight lesbians, that there were no lesbian-owned businesses, and that there were no women-only inns. She should check out gayogunquit.com, a gay-owned and -operated Web site. The Web site would help point her in the right direction.

Without “outing” the respective business owners, I will tell you, and would be happy to make referrals upon request, that there is at least one women-only inn, and at least six lesbian-owned thriving businesses, all very visible. As the Owner of Maine Street Video Bar and Dance Club, I am proud to say that one of my most prominent DJs is a woman (who is featured on the gayogunquit.com Web site), I hosted at least one major women-only event every month all winter with attendance of between 85-125 women at each event. On any given weekend night, I count well over eight women in my club, many times actually to a number that surprises even me. How many Lesbian Dance clubs are there in Boston?

Ogunquit is a diverse community that is growing and changing . . . quickly. As a member of the Ogunquit Planning Board for the past five years, I have prided myself on helping to provide some new growth for the gay community, both men and women, while at the same time working with the Town to encourage it to embrace and accept this growth.

I would ask any of your readers to check out gayogunquit.com, come down to Ogunquit on any weekend and then make up their own minds.

Albert DelloRusso
