Let Cuba Live plans to do it again

By Noah Bruce

Undaunted by the US Customs seizure of goods back in July, Let Cuba Live, the Brunswick-based group seeking an end to the US embargo of Cuba, is sending another shipment of medical supplies to Cuba through Canada on August 18.

“Instead of backing down and conceding one inch to immoral blockade policies,” says Let Cuba Live member Todd Ricker, “we’re going to go back with a bigger group and more stuff and see what happens.”

The caravan will again cross the border at Coburn Gore and be met by the Canadian group Comité d’ Amité Quebec-Cuba. And like last trip, Let Cuba Live will not request the permit required by customs to ship goods to Cuba, on the grounds that citizens should be able to send medical supplies without the government’s permission.

This time around, Let Cuba Live is prepared for a scuffle with the government. No, they’re not bringing ski masks and baseball bats; CBS news and local Channel 13 will be coming along for the ride to report on any nastiness that ensues.

To date, the government has not returned any of the medical goods, including two anesthesia machines, seized on July 2, despite a 52 page written request by Let Cuba Live.
