Bad news for everyone in town who likes to dance the salsa: Dulce de Leche, which
quickly became the hottest thing since the macarena this summer, is on indefinite hiatus,
and won’t be playing anytime soon. Drummer Chicky Stoltz and pianist Paul Chamberlain
have left the band, citing internal band disagreements. “For everybody who enjoyed the music,
we’re sorry for you,” says Stoltz. However, Ralph Rodriguez, the band’s bass player, says
the show will go on. “I can’t keep the band going without a piano player,” he says, “so it’s over
until we can find a replacement. But everybody else is ready to rock. I’m going to do whatever
I can to keep it going, but finding people who know how to play this music in this town is
like finding a needle in a haystack.” It’s clear that, for Rodriguez, this band is his passion,
so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Dulce resurface in about six months.
Check your bookmarks, local music fans. The band site for Cerberus Shoal moved months ago,
from www.cerberus-shoal.com to www.cerberusshoal.com. Man, that’s a tricky little hyphen. If you
leave it in there, guess what you get now? Yep, porn. There’s a picture aptly titled “Topless
Girl,” then some advertisements for penis enlargement, Viagra, and ViaCreme
(sexual enhancement for gals). Well, at least it’s somewhat equal-opportunity porn.
More bad news, at least for us: “Sibilance” got word this week that Abi Tapia
will be leaving town to relocate to Texas. She’s a Southern girl, anyway, born in Alabama,
so we can’t say it doesn’t make sense, especially as she’s pretty much done all she can in these
parts, having already won the 2001 Songwriters Showdown at the Maine Arts Festival. Call
in to catch her this Friday, October 25, on WMPG’s “Local Motives” and wish her
good luck.
