MORE ON PART 1 I read the article on Augusta’s mayor today with great interest (see "Augusta’s Mayor, His Two Hats, and $400,000," April 15, by Lance Tapley). I know that you probably picked this story due to the federal involvement, but the entire story of William Dowling’s mayorship is one that I use to show my children how local government works at its worst. From ignoring specific restrictions on land deeded to the city for specific purposes (i.e. the old Cony High School site deal with Hannaford) to rezoning neighborhoods to accommodate big businesses (i.e. Packard Development on Storey Street), Dowling and city manager Bridgeo, with the cooperation of some of the city council, continue to manage the city at the expense of the taxpayers of Augusta. It is good to see that at least something has finally caught the eye of a dissenting voice, as the papers in this area very seldom express opinions opposite to what is being done here. Thanks for a job well done. Please keep it up. Deb Colomy Augusta
