The Maine chapter of the New England Foosball Association, also known as the Maine Foosball Association (see "The no-spin zone," May 16, by Sam Pfeifle), has announced that head and founder Andy Ambrose will be stepping down. As a sign of the role he played in pioneering organized foosball in Maine, he will be replaced by a steering committee of six to eight players to replicate the "the time, dedication, [and] unique skill set that Andy has," writes MFA member Wayne Story in an email. "Andy started NEFA-ME as the Maine Foosball Association approximately 18 months ago," Story lauds. "At that time there was no organized foosball group in Southern Maine, no tournaments, about eight regular players, and it was frequently hard to find a game, even on a weekend night . . . Andy built the group into what it is today. Now we have six tournaments a month, organized and run fairly and consistently, a group of 40-plus reasonably regular players, and you can find a game almost any night of the week. The skills of all the players in the group have improved due to their involvement and two of our members have been to the World Championships." Cheers to Ambrose from game-players everywhere.
