ROCK SCENE
As Fast As travel to LA
BY SAM PFEIFLE

Recently signed to Octone Records, local pop-rockers As Fast As leave Portland Wednesday to first play NYC’s Tribeca Rock Club, then travel to Los Angeles to record their next album and Octone debut with none other than producer Matt Wallace, who not only made the Maroon 5 album that sold zillions of copies, but who also worked with Faith No More and Portland’s very own 6gig (he did a nice job on their Mind Over Mind, even if Ultimatum didn’t know what to do with it).

In somewhat related news, Rustic Overtones are on the airwaves again. The former Portland band — which contained As Fast As’s Spencer Albee, along with Paranoid Social Club’s Dave Gutter, Jon Roods, and Marc Boisvert (for a short time); Esperanza’s Jason Ward, Seekonk’s Dave Noyes, R&B man Tony McNaboe (you get the idea) — recently scored inclusion on the debut of the new season of 24, with their song "Man Without a Mouth." Pretty cool.
