BEER NEWS
Packing a punch

420 TIMES TWO: Stone Coast Brewing Co.’s new 840 Imperial IPA is not a light beer, it’s a heavyweight. Weighing in at 8.5 percent alcohol by volume, 840 is a double IPA, and double the recipe of Stonecoast’s 420 India Pale Ale. It has twice the amount of hops per batch (840 ounces), as well as double the THC content of 420 (0). Brewmaster Tom Kostovick, who created the recipe to enter an extreme-beer recipe contest, says the secret to this brew is dry-hopping, the addition of dry hops to an already fermenting batch of beer. This brew is so flavorful and aromatic, it can pin you before you even start to count, so Stone Coast only serves 840 in 10-ounce glasses. For now it’s available only at the Tap Room & Pizzeria, but could soon be entering the ring at The Great Lost Bear.
