FILM SCENE
Camden documentary fest wants you
BY ALEX IRVINE

Camden International Film Festival founder and co-director Benjamin Fowlie wants Portland-area filmmakers to head east. This year’s inaugural CIFF, scheduled for September 30 through October 2 at locations in Camden, Rockport, and Rockland, is dedicated to "documentaries of global injustice on a social, economic, political or environmental level," and Fowlie is looking to round out his existing program with contributions from socially aware southern Maine submissions. The program will include films, photographic exhibits, and lecture/discussion sessions; Fowlie is looking for more work in all categories.

The current lineup, Fowlie writes in an email, "includes filmmakers David Bradbury, Walter Ungerer and Stephanie Black, professors John Michalczyk and Charles Mayer, as well as Cynthia Close from Documentary Educational Resources, a leader in archiving documentary footage."
