On Thursday, June 23, antiwar activists will stand in Senator Susan Collins’s Bangor office and read the names of 1700 American soldiers and an equal number of Iraqi citizens who have died since the Iraq war started in March 2003. Assuming the protestors make it past office security, they hope to convince Collins to attend a July town meeting on the war with Congressional Representative Tom Allen.

The demonstration will coincide with a 10 a.m. antiwar protest outside of the nearby Federal Building in Bangor. Organizers include the Maine Veterans for Peace, the Maine Council of Churches, and Peace Action Maine. To get involved, meet at the Peace and Justice Center in Bangor, at 170 Park Street, at 9 a.m. on Thursday, or email Dud Hendrick at dudhe@verizon.net
