UPDATE 2
CAFTA, up or down
BY SARA DONNELLY

The Maine Fair Trade Campaign is encouraging Mainers to contact Senator Susan Collins to urge her to oppose the US-Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) in a Senate vote which could happen as early as this Thursday, June 30, or Friday, July 1 (see "Going After CAFTA," by Sara Donnelly, June 17). Collins is the only member of Maine’s congressional delegation who does not oppose CAFTA. Passing the agreement is a priority for President Bush, but opponents say the agreement would hamper labor laws and infringe on state’s rights. To contact Senator Collins regarding CAFTA, call her D.C. office at (202) 224-2523 or phone one of her five Maine offices, the numbers for which are listed on her website www.collins.senate.gov.
