Act like you care

It looks like the debate surrounding November’s referendum on the anti-discrimination bill (aka the "gay rights" bill) will officially stray into the theatrical. To combat the Christian Civic League’s vehement opposition to the bill, a local group of actors and activists hope to make as much noise and be just as amusing as Michael Heath on a God-save-our-marriage bender. ROIL, a theatre group for social change, was created last winter by activists Joanna Horton, Caitlin Corrigan, and Tessy Seward. This fall, ROIL will stage free plays in Portland and around the state in support of the anti-discrimination bill (which means getting people to actually vote "no" in November — it can be confusing). Take that, Heath. The three have already written the script (let’s hope it includes some rousing musical numbers) and now they need a troupe to perform it. Auditions for the show will be held from 8 to 9:30 pm this Wednesday, August 31, at the World Arts Studio at 616 Congress Street (2nd floor). Arrive at 7:30 pm to review the reading and to warm up. Leave the headshot at home but bring your righteous indignation.
