Visual art scene
2-1=1
BY SAM PFEIFLE

Andy Verzosa announced this week that he’ll close his Aucocisco Gallery at the Eastland Hotel in order to focus on his Congress Street Aucocisco location. Further, he says he’d like to close his Congress Street location, too, and is "actively looking for a space in the Old Port."

What? One of the Arts District’s most fervent supporters looking to jump ship? "I’ve given this area a pretty good shot," says Verzosa, "but the local folks are going to find me anywhere and when people come to town they’re coming down to the Old Port . . . I’ve had the galleries for five years now and I’ve seen the Arts District kind of trend up and down, up and down, but I haven’t seen any of the big gains, and there’s not the kind of foot traffic that I need."
