DRIVE LOCAL
State plate for farmers?
BY LISA CRAIG

Promoting local agriculture could accelerate for Maine with a new farming-themed vanity plate. The proposed specialty license-plate program would be a vehicle to support Maine farms as well as Maine Agriculture in the Classroom (MAITC), a program dedicated to educating children and next-generation farmers. The proposed design was created from a painting by Charlie Armstrong of Etna, who is part of the MAITC organization promoting the initiative. Two thousand orders for plates (at $20 apiece) are needed to drive the Ag-tag to reality. For more information, go to www.maineagtag.com
