Remember what we said about being drunk and making stuff up? Well, last week we said Station 85 were going to Big Sound to work with Jon Wyman. Soooo not true. Actually, they’ll record with Jack Murray, who we’re sure is a very nice guy and didn’t deserve our slighting of him in the slightest. It does bear mentioning, too, that Wyman will instead work on the brand-new Ponys, er, Phantom Buffalo disc, titled Killing’s Not Okay, while Station 85 are doing their recording. The Dead Season steamroller continues to roll right along. This past weekend, Dead Season captured their second straight WTOS Battle of the Bands in front of 3000 people at the Skowhegan Fair. The band report that they sold nearly 300 copies of their Down Again EP. Good thing they liquidated their inventory; they release a new EP, The Fight, with a show this Friday at the Asylum — just after opening for Megadeth’s Gigantour at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Big doings. Item that didn’t make it from last week: Tribe Describe held a CD-release show at Brian Boru on Friday, August 13, for their debut, What Its Like. We haven’t take a listen yet, but we already admire their disdain for the apostrophe. Ah, to be free of the chains of punctuation — the "Sibilance" staff can only dream. The 10-year Diesel Doug and the Long Haul Truckers retrospective now has a definitive release date: September 6. Doug guitarist Charlie Gaylord’s Cornmeal Records is putting the record out, and smarty-pants editor Sam Pfeifle has reportedly penned an introduction to the record. Cornmeal’s reported Darien Brahms best-of package has been pushed back to a late-fall date. Take it for what it’s worth department: Last Thursday, the "Sibilance" newsroom received this message from new rock outfit Loverless: "Local ‘urban groove rock’ musical group Sidecar Radio and rock monsters Loverless are officially on the OUTS. We have no interest in ever sharing the stage with Sidecar Radio again. Our long simmering rivalry came to a boil last night in the balmy early evening with fists, boots, and drumsticks. It was a decisive battle, and Loverless claims victory. All future shows with Sidecar Radio are hereby cancelled." Then, on Sunday, this message arrived from Sidecar Radio: "Sidecar Radio and Loverless got into a BRAWL on Market Street, complete with many fisticuffs and numerous broken bones. Our bass player, Corey, got a few teeth knocked out by Loverless singer Elijah and the last we heard, Loverless’ drummer is still MIA. We want it to be known by all of Portland and everyone that reads the Phoenix that Loverless and Sidecar Radio are on the Outs! Any friendship that may have grown over the past few months between us and them is now long gone! We spit in their general direction and drop deuces on their lawn! They’re junk and severely lack any reasonable hand-to-hand combat skills." The "Sibilance" staff will only note the repeated phrase "on the outs" and that we have no third-party confirmation of this brawl. Any witnesses are encouraged to write in to sam@phx.com |
